00000000.tmp File

The .tmp file is designed to help monitor the server. It can help monitor whether or not the server was found and reveal problems the server is having with reading the database. It can also indicate whether the service name is found.

The .tmp file is automatically deleted after files are downloaded in a production environment. However, you can edit the Connection Manager service profile so that the .tmp file is not deleted, allowing you to view the error messages.

To activate the .tmp file monitoring process
  1. Use Notepad to open the .cms file on the test client computer.

  2. Edit the key 0=cmdl32.exe %profile% located in the [Connect Actions] section by typing /no_delete. After editing, the section should appear as follows:
    [Connect Actions]
    0=cmdl32.exe %profile% /no_delete

    Note

    If you are using a profile not created by the Connection Manager Administration Kit wizard, 0=cmdl32.exe %profile% may not exist.

  3. Save the edited .cms file, and use the ByteComp profile described in the Connection Point Services Administration Guide to connect Connection Manager to Connection Point Service.

  4. Once a connection is established and information is downloaded, disconnect from the server.

  5. Use Notepad to open the 00000000.tmp file located in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Connection Manager.

Phone Book Service is working properly if the 00000000.tmp file contains control characters and file names such as phone_book.pbk. If Phone Book Service is not working properly, the file will contain an error.

The following are two most common errors that the file will contain.

Error Description
Empty File URL not found
Cannot find service on server, bad request Phone book name not found.
