Internet Authentication Services Error Messages

The following section lists resolutions for common IAS error messages that may occur when you are working with the administration user interface.

Service property changes have been applied and will take effect next time the authentication service is started.

You have saved configuration changes to the IAS database, but the files that the authentication server reads have not been updated.

Solution: Stop and restart IAS.

The log file directory is invalid. Please enter a valid log file directory.

IAS does not create a log file directory if you specify a nonexistent directory.

Solution: Use the Browse button to locate an existing log file directory.

A password is required. Please enter a password.

The password (also called shared secret) is a required RADIUS-client and RADIUS-server value. This password must match the password of the RADIUS client or RADIUS server from which IAS is receiving packets.

Solution: Research the password (shared secret) of the servers that will communicate with IAS. Review the sample configuration discussed in “Deploying Internet Authentication Services.”

An IP address must contain numbers between 0 and 255.

This is an IETF specification.

Solution: Double-check the IP address you have entered. If you are unsure of the validity of the IP address, ping it.
