Abstract:
The Total Processor Usage counter measures the usage of
all installed processors.

To use the counter in Performance Monitor, you must:

1. Install it
2. Select it in Performance Monitor
3. Start TotlProc.exe.

To install the counter, run the following commands from a command
window. (Do not use the Run command on the Start button.)

        regedit tp.reg
        lodctr perftp.ini
        copy perftp.dll %systemroot%\system32\perftp.dll

To verify that the counter was installed correctly, start Exctrlst (a utility on the Windows NT 4.0 Workstation Resource Kit CD). 'TotalProcessor' should appear in the list of extensible counters.

To select the counter:
    Start Performance Monitor.
In the Add to Chart dialog box, select:
Total Processor: % Total Processor Time
(Select Total Processor in the Object box, click the % Total Processor Time counter, then click the Add button.)

To start TotlProc.exe: Run it from a command prompt, from the Run command on the Start button, or create a shortcut to it, then double-click the shortcut.

The processor time value will appear in the TotlProc window in
decimal form and in Performance Monitor in chart, report, alert,
or log view. You can minimize TotlProc.exe, but it you stop it, the
Total Processor counter in Performance Monitor will display a
value of 0%.

Note: TotlProc is not compatible with other processor time counters.
While TotlProc is running, Performance Monitor and Task Manager
processor time counters will always read 100%.
